OUR PROJECTS
1. Civic Beautification

2. Education – Carol Whittle, Chairman
Scholarship(s) to a Waldo County High School graduate working towards a degree in conservation, ecology, horticulture, natural resources, sustainable agriculture or a related field. Funds raised from Annual Green Thumb Plant Sale.

Each year the Garden Club donates $500 to the Troy Howard Middle School Garden Project.

3. Horticulture – Ann Mullen, Chairman

Members and local gardeners share tips and techniques in their working gardens which are open to the public from May to September. More than 20 gardens in Belfast and surrounding area are compiled in a brochure with descriptions of the gardens and dates they will be open to the public. Publicity is ongoing during the Open Garden Days. Funds raised are used for civic beautification projects.

5. Recycle First Initiative – Diane Allmayer-Beck, Chairman
A program to promote environmental awareness and raise funds for our civic beautification and scholarships funds. Members are collecting inkjet printer cartridges, laser toner cartridges, cell phones, palm pilots, laptops, iPods, video games and consoles and digital cameras from individuals and businesses. All inkjet and laser cartridges must be non-remanufactured. This ongoing effort to educate consumers and divert reusable items from landfills
exemplifies the club’s commitment to sound conservation
practices.
